STEP 2: LEARN TO EXPLORE
"These are your companions, Shima. Each of us arrived here the same way you did. Lost. Confused. And very much dead. But the Kairos does not send us without purpose." - Pona
It is time to choose who you are in the Kairos…
CHOOSE YOUR CHARACTER
Each character has a name, a role, and a distinct way of engaging with the world. No two play the same.
Revealing a Tile
When you move your character onto a face-down tile, you reveal it.
Flip it face-up. Read the symbol. Resolve its effect immediately.
That tile is now exhausted. If you or another player lands on it again, nothing happens. Whatever it held has been claimed.
Tiles do not reset. The Kairos does not give twice.
"The land is generous, Shima. But only once."
The Tile Types
There are 4 main tile types in Fawnalore. Learn to recognize their symbols. You will see them on your tiles and again on your character card — the same language, used in both places.
Ether
Raw energy, concentrated in the land. When you reveal this tile, roll your Ether Die. Gain that much Ether and add it to your tracker. Look at your character card — you'll see this same symbol next to your Ether stat.
Relic
The Kairos left something behind for whoever found it first. When you reveal this tile, draw one card from your Relic Deck and add it to your hand.
Event
The Kairos is unpredictable. When you reveal this tile, draw one card from the shared Event Deck and resolve it immediately. It may help you. It may not.
SPECIAL TILES
Campaign
This tile is never face-down. It sits in plain sight, visible from the moment the board is built. When you land on it, scan the QR code on the tile. Something will happen.
Consumed
Something is here. When you reveal this tile, draw one card from the Monster Deck. That monster is now yours to control — and to deal with.
Campfire
A place of rest. In Episode 1, this is where you begin your journey. More on campfire rules as they appear in play.
Some spaces on a tray are left empty. These are Void spaces — gaps in the world. You cannot enter them. You cannot cross them. Route around them.
"Now you know what the land holds. The question is whether you are ready to go looking for it."
